Tech giant underpins competition of skilled teenagers

Samsung Electronics continues its supports for the WorldSkills Competition, which will be held from August 22 to 27 this year in Kazan, Russia.

Samsung will contribute 1.5 million euros to the event and the tech giant is scheduled to install an on-site experience zone that will offer participants and visitors, and up-close look at its latest innovations.

The Seoul-based company has underpinned the event, which is called the “World Championships of Skills,” over the past seven years. It also marks the fourth year for the firm to serve as the competition’s sole Overall Event Presenter.

WorldSkills Kazan 2019 is estimated to attract around 1,400 participants from 67 countries the world over. Competitors will show off their skills in 60 trades and vocations.

Included in the contested segments are carpentry, engineering, culinary, and graphic design to name but a few.

The gathering is designed to inspire competitors to reach new heights and help them turn their passion into a profession, according to Samsung.

“For Samsung, the competition presents a valuable opportunity to support vocational training in countries around the world, and nurture the development of future engineers,” a Samsung official said.

“Samsung has a long history of supporting young workers’ professional pursuits. In addition to hosting the annual Global Samsung Skills Competition, we have been a sponsor of Korea’s National Skills Competition and a consistent supporter of Team Korea in the WorldSkills Competition since 2007.”

Korea plans to dispatch some 50 contestants to this year’s event, 19 of whom hail from Samsung Electronics and its sister companies like Samsung Heavy Industries.

“Samsung Electronics’ sponsorship of our event is meaningful because Samsung believes that companies should play a big role in helping teenagers hone their skills and create their own careers,” WorldSkills International President Simon Bartley said.
