Korean tobacco firm moves into Center 1 building
British American Tobacco has relocated the head office of its Korean unit to downtown Seoul. The outfit has been based in southern Seoul for the past 16 years.BAT Rothmans, the South Korean affiliate of the global tobacco group, said on August 1 that it had moved into the Center 1 building at the core of Seoul’s central business district.The company said that it would build a smart office, which is designed to enable its employees to work in more flexible and innovative fashions.Toward that end, BAT Rothmans has introduced the “hot-desk” system under which staffers would work together to come up with creative ideation. Instead, they will be given personal lockers.The new office is also equipped with phone booths, conference rooms for meetings, and a lounge, which can also accommodate many participants for large-scale events.BAT Rothmans said that such working environments are in line with its “one-team, one-heart, one-purpose” philosophy of encouraging flexible workhour and telecommuting.“Ahead of the first anniversary of its commencement, BAT Rothmans has made a fresh start for another quantum leap,” BAT Rothmans country manager Kim Eun-ji said.“We will continue to put forth efforts to find a new growth momentum through building a smart office and making creative, flexible organization.”BAT Rothmans said earlier this year that it had gained a certificate from the Great Place to Work Institute (GPTW) thanks to its advanced workplace culture.The corporation received the certification with a 92 percent employee satisfaction rating.
