Boy band scores the most-streamed K-pop song on Spotify

What would be the most-streamed K-pop song on Spotify, a global music platform launched a decade ago to provide access to more than 40 million tracks?

BlackPink has been the leader with the foursome girl group’s single “Kiss and Make Up,” which has amassed more than 280 million plays since its release last October.

In comparison, BTS dropped its single “Boy With Luv” this April to rack up more than 285 million plays to nudge past BlackPink.

This is not the first time for BTS to dethrone BlackPink at a global online platform.

In this April, BlackPink made YouTube history as its new title track “Kill This Love” and a music video for the song gathered 56.7 million views in the first 24 hours to renew the all-time record.

The previous 24-hour record was set by Arina Grande, whose song “Thanks u, next” attracted 55.4 million views in November 2018.

But the K-pop act’s euphoria was short-lived because BTS shattered the record in a few weeks with almost 80 million views with their comeback album “Map of the Soul: Persona.”

BTS fans, known as ARMY, helped a lot to raise the YouTube view count as amply demonstrated by the fact that the music video drew almost 2 million comments on Day 1.

Short for Adorable Representative M.C. for Youth, ARMY refers to BTS fans famous for their loyalty. Hundreds of millions of BTS fans spread across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and America.

“Boy With Luv” is the lead track for the seven-member idol group’s fourth studio album.

After having an extended break in August for the first time after its 2013 debut, BTS is now back at work. The seven-piece band plans to perform in Saudi Arabia and Seoul this month.
