Boy band members dominate monthly rank

Two BTS members were named top idols for May, according to the Korea Institute of Corporate Reputation, which compiles related data including media attention and comments on social networking sites on a monthly basis.

Data collected from April 16 to May 17 showed BTS member Jimin and V took top two places. The former scored 16.8 million points to stay atop the table for two straight months while the latter had 12.79 million points.

Coming in at third was Minhyun of boy band NU’EST, who gained 12 million points. The group, which debuted early 2012, consists of five members.

The remaining five BTS members placed between fourth and eighth from Jungkook, Jin, RM, Suga, and J-Hope. Jungkook assumed the second place last month but slid to the fourth spot this month.

“With regard to Jimin, people talked about such issues as YouTube, donation, and ‘Serendipity,’” said an official from the Seoul-based institute. “Up to 94.53 percent of comments on Jimin were positive, up from 93.8 percent last month.”

BTS released its latest mini album “Map of the Soul: Persona” on April 12 to dominate YouTube. In particular, the music video of the album’s title track “Boy With Luv” recently racked up 300 million views on the video-sharing platform.

“Serendipity” is a BTS song, which was sung as a solo by Jimin in 2017. The view count of its music video recently surpassed 100 million to become the 19th BTS music video to reach the milestone.

The septet, otherwise known as the Bangtan Boys, is now in the midst of a world tour as a follow-up to the group’s latest album.

The “Love Yourself: Speak Yourself” stadium will feature a total of 16 shows across four continents including Sao Paulo, London, and Paris on top of U.S. cities.
