Boy band members keep dominating monthly rank

BTS member Jimin was named the top idol for July, according to the Korea Reputation Center (KRC) that compiles related data like media attention and comments on social networking sites on a monthly basis.

Data collected from June 18 to July 19 showed that Jimin took the highest place by scoring 14 million points, down 19.51 percent from a month before.

The 23-year-old, whose real name is Park Ji-min, has remained atop the table for nine months in a row.

His bandmate Jungkook took the second slot with 10 million points, up 16.32 percent from a month ago.

Coming in at third was Baekhyun of boy band EXO, who gained 5.5 million points, followed by Cha Eun-woo of ASTRO with 5.4 million points and BTS V with 5.2 million points.

“With regard to Jimin, people talked about such issues as love and ARMY,” KRC CEO Koo Chang-hwan said. “Up to 80.03 percent of comments on Jimin were positive.”

Short for Adorable Representative M.C. for Youth, ARMY refers to loyal fans of BTS across the world.

BTS released its fourth studio album “Map of the Soul: Persona” this April. The music video of the mini album’s title track “Boy With Luv” racked up 460 million views on YouTube.

After dropping the seven-track album, BTS went through a globe-trotting concert tour that encompassed such cities as New York, London, and Paris.

This month, the seven-piece idol group played in Japan despite the frayed relationship between Seoul and Tokyo.

BTS, otherwise known as the Bangtan Boys, plans to perform in Saudi Arabia in October.
