Boy band members sweep the podium

BTS member Jimin was named the top idol for August, according to the Korea Reputation Center (KRC) that compiles related data like media attention and comments on social networking sites on a monthly basis.

Data collected from July 15 to August 16 showed that Jimin took the highest place by scoring 11.27 million points.

It marks a 19.49 percent decrease from a month ago, but was high enough to keep the 23-year-old artist atop the list for 10 months in a row.

His two bandmates of V and Jungkook closely chased him.

V, whose real name is Kim Tae-hyung, took the second slot with 8.01 million points, up 53.32 percent from July.

Coming at third was Jungkook, who gained 6.45 million points, down 35.55 percent from a month before.

“With regard to Jimin, people talked about such issues as ARMY and break,” KRC CEO Koo Chang-hwan said. “Up to 85.59 percent of comments on Jimin were positive.”

Short for Adorable Representative M.C. for Youth, ARMY refers to loyal fans of BTS across the world.

It remains to be seen whether BTS members will be able to dominate the monthly research next month because the seven-piece boy band is taking a break.

BTS, otherwise known as the Bangtan Boys, is expected to return in October to perform in Saudi Arabia after finishing its first vacation since its debut in 2013.

Early this year, BTS released its fourth studio album “Map of the Soul: Persona” to enjoy global popularity. Then, the septet went through a globe-trotting concert tour that encompassed such cities as New York, London, and Paris.
