Video clip of eating grilled fish attracts 3.5 million views

Over the past two weeks, BTS member Jungkook uploaded three “mukbang” video clips on the BTS Twitter account to attract more than 15 million views.

On May 13, the youngest member of the K-pop band posted a video of eating an apple. The view count topped 5 million in less than 36 hours and now approaches 6 million.

On May 19, the 21-year-old also came up with a video where he ate grilled fish with asparagus and tomatoes. The 1 minute, 34 second clip titled “late morning meal” already racked up 3.5 million views.

Earlier on May 10, he posted a clip where he had a pizza, and its view count surpassed 6 million.

On top of the pre-recorded ones, Jungkook, whose full name is Jeon Jung-kook, has live streamed mukbang videos.

Mukbang refers to a video where a person, called a host, eats food. Usually, hosts eat a lot and talk a lot to gain popularity.

By contrast, Jungkook does not eat much nor talk much, but still many people want to see his clips.

Of note is that Jungkook, who used to be very shy, was not active on Twitter as Adrian Besley, author of the 2018 book titled “BTS, Icons of K-pop, points out.

“Jungkook is the least active of the group on Twitter. ARMY have encouraged him to post more, and he has said he will try,” Besley said.

Short for Adorable Representative MC for Youth, ARMY are very loyal BTS fans.

With six other members, Jungkook finished the idol group’s U.S. tour last week and will perform in San Paulo this week.

As a part of their “Love Yourself: Speak Yourself” world tour, they will also perform in such cities as London and Paris as a follow-up to the septet’s latest album “Map of the Soul: Persona.”
