Vocal group's comeback album draws YouTube viewers

The music video of “ON,” Korean vocal group BTS’ new song, has surpassed 70 million views at YouTube in two and a half days after its release at 6 p.m. on February 21.

“ON” is the title track of the seven-piece K-pop band’s comeback album “Map of the Soul: 7.”

The view count is expected to reach the 100 million mark soon.

Observers point out it is a fast pace, but slower than the vocal group’s previous album “Map of the Soul: Persona,” which was dropped last April.

The music video of its lead track of “Boy with Luv” amassed 100 million views in less than 38 hours to break the record of the global video-sharing site.

The video clip for the BTS’ Billboard-topping song racked up 700 million YouTube views last week to become the second BTS song to reach the mark.

The septet’s “DNA,” which was disclosed on September 18, 2017, gathered more than 920 million views. It is highly likely to become the first BTS music video to surpass 1 billion views.

But the umbrella album of “ON” broke the record of selling more than 1 million copies in just an hour after its debut in South Korea alone.

According to Hanteo, an outfit that compiles sales data here in real-time, the sales reached the 2 million mark under two hours.

As the number of pre-orders for the group’s fourth studio album was upside of 4 million across the globe, it is poised to be another mega-hit album for BTS.
