Will Big Hit acquire Pledis?
Big Hit Entertainment, which manages the world’s largest boy band BTS, has reportedly agreed to acquire Pledis Entertainment, which manages such famous K-pop groups and After School, NU’EST, and Seventeen.A Korean sports newspaper reported early this week that even after the acquisition, Big Hit plans to allow Pledis to manage their artists independently. Big Hit already adopted such an approach in gobbling up Source Music midway through last year. Source is a label for GFriend, a six-piece girl group.In response media requires, Big Hit notes that it is open to various opportunities, while refusing to confirm the deal.If Big Hit eventually snaps up Pledis, the agency’s dominance is expected to be bigger. Nudging past such conventional behemoths as SM, YG, and JYP, Big Hit became the largest K-pop label over the past few years.Han Sung-soo established Pledis Entertainment in 2010.
