Legendary US musician cooperates with Korean band, firm

Steve Aoki is a famous U.S. DJ and record producer. The musician was born in Florida and grew up in California, but he is of Japanese descent. Hence, it would be understandable if Japanese companies or music bands try to cooperate with him.

The mystery is that he is sought after by many Koreans. It is exceptional because Koreans are usually not crazy about Japan or Japanese because of Japan’s brutal colonial rule of the country during 1910 and 1945.

K-pop superstar BTS asked Steve Aoki to produce a remix of its song “Mic Drop,” in late 2017. The remix was one of the most successful ones of the boy band as its music video amassed more than 470 million views on YouTube.

The view counts started rising fast again this month after the septet dropped its latest mini album “Map of the Soul: Persona,” which is sure to top the Billboard 200 albums chart in consideration of its huge popularity.

“I love these guys. These guys are the geniuses,” he told Billboard at the time. “They’re so creative on every level – on their dance, on their sound, on their style, their flow, creatively musically, creatively on the fashion hip.”

And Aoki grabbed the headlines of Korean newspapers once again this week thanks to the country’s largest company Samsung Electronics.

The Seoul-based electronics giant presented its first bendable smartphone of the Galaxy Fold, which will hit shelves later this month, to celebrities across the world including Aoki.

Aoki said that he could not believe that the device is a phone.

“I’ve never seen anything like this phone,” he said. “This is so insane.”

He also said, “This is the future, I guess.”
