More than 78 mil. fans watch BTS music video on Day 1

K-pop girl group Blackpink made YouTube history early this month as its new title track “Kill This Love” and a music video for the song racked up 56.7 million views in the first 24 hours to renew the record.

The previous 24-hour record of 55.4 million views was set by Ariana Grande’s “Thanks u, next” in November, 2018.

However, the quartet’s euphoria was short-lived because other K-pop juggernaut BTS shattered the record by gathering more than 78 million views with their comeback album “Map of the Soul: Persona.”

The music video for the mini album’s lead single “Boy With Luv” got 78.1 million views on its first day to shatter the week-old record in a convincing fashion. BTS received 45.9 million views on the first day for its previous music video “Idol” last year.

And “Boy With Luv” is sure to become the fastest music video to gather 100 million views on YouTube.

YouTube will formally announce the official view count soon although it is not clear exactly when the platform operator will do so. In the case of Blackpink, the unofficial number of views prior to the adjustments made by YouTube was 49.9 million views.

The seven-member boy band’s fans, known as ARMY, appear to pull through once again to help raise the YouTube view count as demonstrated by the fact that the music video drew 2 million comments.

ARMY, which is brief for Adorable Representative Master of ceremonies for Youth, fans are famous for their loyalty. Hundreds of millions of BTS fans spread across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and America.

“I watched it more than 100 times and I still watching it,” a fan said in a Youtube comment.

“I just stayed at home in the last 25 hours, slept for four hours. I’ve been watching seven boys in pink singing and dancing. It’s a day filled with love,” another fan said.
