No. of followers rise by 5 million in less than a year

There are two Korean Twitter accounts, which are followed by more than 15 million people. And both are related to K-pop sensation BTS, which gains the highlight with its latest album “Map of the Soul: Persona.”

One is the joint Twitter account of BTS members (@BTS _ twt), and the other is the boy band’s official account (@bts _ bighit). And the number of the former’s followers surpassed 20 million on May 24.

The account, which has been the most-followed Korean Twitter account, gathered 5 million new followers over the past year as the number topped 15 million on May 30, 2018. It was November 2017 when the figure reached 10 million.

“Twenty million lights and 20 million galaxies, Thank you so much. I love you guys and I miss you guys,” BTS leader RM posted on the Twitter account while finishing the message saying “I love you” again in a cute way in Korean.

RM would be emotional about the milestone. In 2013 when BTS debuted after years of training, its members came up with a Twitter message of hoping to gather 600 followers.

By contrast, BTS was the most re-tweeted celebrities in the world for two straight years in 2017 and 2018.

And the BTS Twitter account is full of messages from fans, otherwise called ARMY, which is brief for Adorable Representative M.C. for Youth.

“You guys deserve it. Thank you for being our shoulder whenever we feel like the world is pulling us down. We would always be here for you guys. Thank you for being the brightest stars in our dark universe. I love you,” a fan said.

“Congratulations for 20 million followers. We are really growing every day. We will grow more soon. It’s the doing of you and the boys and your music. Your music is making so many people, 20 million for now, love you and follow you. Literally, you boys are the best people in the world,” another fan said.
