K-pop group makes debut at Forbes Celebrity 100 list
K-pop superstar BTS is recognized as one of the highest-paid celebrities in the world as the seven-piece boy band ranked high in the annual report of the Forbes.Over the past year, BTS earned $57 million in terms of pretax income to rank 43 on the highest-paid entertainers’ list of the Forbes for 2019. It marks the first time for the idol group to make it into the list. No other boy bands or K-pop acts took a higher place than the Seoul-based group, which was formed by BigHit Entertainment in 2013.American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift topped the podium with $185 million followed by celebrity-turned-makeup mogul Kylie Jenner with $170 million, and American rapper Kanye West with $150 million.The price of admission to the Forbes list amounted to $37.5 million, up 7 percent from a year before. The 100 superstars combined to gross $6.3 billion in pretax earnings.The Forbes said that BTS take home big earnings thanks to its “Love Yourself, Speak Yourself” stadium tour, which encompassed three U.S. cities, Sao Paulo, London, and Paris this year.The septet went through the globe-trotting concert tour after releasing its fourth studio album “Map of the Soul: Persona” in this April. Now, the band is performing in Japan.The Forbes pointed out that endorsement deals with such brands as Hyundai and Coca Cola also boosted the crew’s cash flow.BTS, otherwise known as the Bangtan Boys, also came up with a new mobile application BTS World last month.
