RM takes lead; V, Jungkook try to help
BTS is a seven-piece boy band. All of them sing, dance, and rap together on the stage. When it comes to English interviews, however, it is a one-man show of its leader RM, the only fluent English speaker.
RM, whose real name is Kim Nam-joon, has shown his confidence in speaking in English to other people.
The 24-year-old takes a leading role in interviews, talk shows, and other major events held in English. For example, he made a speech in New York last September to support the initiative of the United Nations.
His English skills are self-taught as RM once said that he learned English watching Friends, an American TV sitcom.
RM, whose IQ is 148, appears to have a talent for languages as he has also dabbled in Japanese.
No other bandmates are as fluent as RM but some of them, including V and Jungkook, try hard to help him.
During English interviews, V sometimes chimed in to support RM as shown during an event in time with this year’s Billboard Music Awards in early May. His full name is Kim Tae-hyung.
Asked to shout out to BTS fans, V answered “Every moment is a precious memory. We’re so happy we can be a part of this with our fans.”
In early 2018, a Korean TV station showed BTS member’s daily life. Back then, V was practicing English, saying “We are going to Billboard Music Awards. We should help RM.”
Recently, youngest member Jungkook also noted that his goal is to take part in English interviews more.
The 21-year-old, whose real name is Jeon Jung-kook, noted that he is studying English really hard, memorizing all the vocabulary.
In the future, either V or Jungkook will take the mike frequently to thank BTS fans.
