Four senior executives appointed at major discount chain

Homeplus, South Korea’s second-largest discount chain, said this week that it had tapped former McDonald’s Korea CEO Cho Ju-yeon as its chief marketing officer.

The Seoul-based company also recruited Hwang Jeong-wook as its new chief financial officer. He worked as a CFO at the Korean affiliate of British biologics powerhouse AstraZeneca.

Homeplus CEO Lee Jae-hoon, who took the helm at the Seoul-based outfit early this year, also appointed two other top executives in the products department.

Kim Woong will take charge of fresh food, home appliances, and bakeries on top of product support and safety. Oh Jae-yong will lead teams working on the grocery, fashion, and interior design products.

Thus far, Kim has headed the product department of Homeplus, while Oh was chief product officer at such convenience chains as Seven-Eleven and Buy the way.

The reshuffle will go into effect as of July 12.

“The reshuffle will let people clearly know why they should visit Homeplus stores,” CEO Lee said in a statement.

Cho grabbed headlines in 2016 when she took the reins of McDonald’s Korea. She was the first woman chief to head the Korean unit of the global fast-food company.
