Unique biz platform set to bridge foreign & Korean CEOs

A unique business platform debuted in Seoul on Nov. 26 aimed at connecting Korean businesspeople with foreign entrepreneurs here in an unprecedented way.

It is the Global Business Alliance (GBA) of which inauguration ceremony took place at Yongsan Dragon City Hotel, attracting hundreds of CEOs, start-up leaders, and diplomatic counselors at home and abroad.

Kervan Group Chairman Oh Sinan Ozturk, who also leads the GBA, hosted the gala dinner event. He said that GBA will support foreign entrepreneurs doing business here and Korean businesspeople entering overseas markets.

“We believe that through the GBA, Korea’s economy, exports and job market will be expanded,” said Oh, whose Turkish name is Sinan Ozturk.

“In particular, I am sure that it will be a great power to companies that want or plan to go abroad. The GBA is also a great place for foreign businessmen who are very interested in Korea’s products.”

World Federation of Korean Association of Commerce Chairman Kim Deog-ryong said that the GBA will play a pivotal role at a time when more and more foreign CEOs carry out businesses in Korea.

Currently, the number of expatriates here is more than 2.2 million and the figure is expected to almost double to upside of 4 million in a decade.

“In the first stage of globalization, Korea has been one of the most successful countries. But we are struggling in the second stage of globalization of today,” the former five-term lawmaker said.

“At this climate, organizations like the GBA will boost Korea by bridging Korean and foreign CEOs.”

Such celebrities as former UN Secretary-General Bahn Ki-moon and Seoul City Mayor Park Won-soon also sent congratulatory messages in time with the launch of the GBA.

The GBA plans to provide consulting services to members while offering various certifications necessary for outbound shipments.

From the perspective of Korean companies, they will be able to test foreign markets and secure export channels through monthly meetings hosted by the not-for-profit entity.

GBA Chairman Oh is a Turk who first came to Korea in 1997 to study at Seoul National University.

He presently runs one of the largest foreign restaurant franchises in Korea by specializing in Halal cuisine in 16 locations across the nation.
