Former KARA member hospitalized

Goo Hara, a former member of K-pop girl group KARA, attempted suicide in her house located in southern Seoul early May 26. She is safe now.

On the previous night, the 28-year-old posted a goodbye message on her Instagram account, which prompted her manager to contact her several times.

As she did not pick up, the manager rushed to her house to find her unconscious in a room filled with smoke.

Koo is known to have no life-threatening injuries although she still remains unconscious.

Goo has been mired in a legal battle with her ex-boyfriend surnamed Choi about dating violence, which first grabbed headlines last year.

Early this year, Choi was indicted without detention for having injured Goo during a fight in last September and threatening to leak a sex video.

During his first trial last month, Choi denied most of the charges.

The next trial is scheduled on May 30 when Goo is supposed to appear as a witness.

Against this backdrop, Koo has reportedly suffered depression.

KARA first debuted in 2007 by DSP Media. Koo joined the idol group the next year as one of its original members left it.

KARA was recognized as one of the most successful K-pop girl groups but it disbanded in early 2016 as DSP Media’s contracts with KARA members expired.
