Old mattress may lead to poor sleep

In most of the cases it is seen that these people have problems sleeping at night, wake up with pain in the neck and back, and other symptoms that indicate that the mattress has past its prime time.

However, there can be aplenty of different reasons for you not getting a good night’s sleep such as:

  • Tension and anxiety

  • The food that you eat

  • Your actions before going to bed

  • The amount that you drink

  • Amount of caffeine you take

  • How much you smoke

  • How much water you drink

  • Technological devices in your room such as a TV or mobile phone usage

  • The sleeping conditions and environment

  • Your bed and bedding.

Though all these may have a serious detrimental effect on your sleep and your rest, the age and condition of your mattress cannot be overlooked. You may have to wake up in the middle of the night for it as well.

Signs of a deteriorating mattress

If you go through the full review of a mattress then you will see that it can cause severe short term, long term and even chronic health issues as well. To make sure that you avoid such situations to happen look for these following signs of a deteriorating mattress and replace it if you see one or many of it in your old mattress:

  • Sagging: This occurs when the surface of the mattress does not provide the desired support to your body. Sagging occurs especially when you sleep with your partner due to the increase in weight on the mattress. Sagging results in improper sleeping position and can cause spinal misalignment.

  • Softening: This occurs over time as you use the mattress especially if it is made of foam or latex. If the mattress becomes soft it will lose its ability to take on the pressure of your body and cause pain in your lower back and neck.

  • Body impressions: Over time your mattress may have body prints or impressions on it especially if you sleep on a particular spot in the same way, night after night. This is another significant sign of mattress deterioration that it develops over the years. If this happens, the sleeping surface will become uneven causing back.

  • Squeaking: An old mattress will emit lots of different sounds as and when you move or change you sleeping position on it. It will not only disrupt your sleep easily but will also wake you up time and again at night being anxious that your partner may wake up due to such squeaking sounds.

  • The rest factor: If you do not feel adequately rested when you wake up in the morning, it is time to replace your old mattress with a new one.

Remember, you will need a good night’s sleep to carry on with your work the next day and to retain your health. Therefore, invest on a good new mattress and take care of it if you do not want your comfort, sleep and even your relationship compromised in the end.
