Korean outfits join HFCS in California

South Korea’s H2Korea announced on Feb. 9 that it had taken part in the Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Seminar (HFCS) in California, which finished its three-day run on the day.

Organized by the U.S. Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Energy Association, HFCS is North America’s largest hydrogen event with longer than 40 years of history.

The annual gathering is geared toward offering a business exchange venue for companies and institutions to come together to discuss hydrogen-related global issues.

On top of H2Korea, other South Korean corporations also joined the event, including Hyundai Motor, SK E&S, KOTRA, Korea Zinc, and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE).

During the three days, South Korea set up an exclusive pavilion for promotion.

In particular, H2Korea and the MOTIE co-hosted presentation session and the Korea-U.S. hydrogen roundtable with the U.S. Department of Commerce and U.S. Department of Energy.

H2Korea said that Korea’s first participation in HFCS as a host country had secured significant new opportunities for the outfit and the country.

On Day 2, H2Korea Chairman Moon Jae-do delivered a keynote speech about the significance of a global alliance to expand the hydrogen economy.

“As we participated in the HFCS as a host country, we could able to improve the status of our hydrogen industry. In addition, we could enhance hydrogen-related cooperation with the United States,” Chairman Moon said.

“As the main organization to promote South Korea’s hydrogen industry, H2Korea will continue to support the closer collaboration between the two countries.”

H2Korea is South Korea’s state-backed entity designed to support the hydrogen economy _ using hydrogen to decarbonize economic sectors that are hard to electrify.

Midway through 2022, almost 20 organizations from across the world formed a global organization called the Global Hydrogen Industrial Association Alliance (GHIAA).

The alliance strives to found a new ecosystem focusing on hydrogen. H2Korea chief Moon was elected to head the GHIAA for the first two years.
