Mamamoo member soars to highest position

Hwasa, the lead vocalist of K-pop group Mamamoo, was the top girl idol for this month, according to a brand reputation analysis by the Korea Reputation Center (KRC).

The Seoul-based entity collected 92,742,550 pieces of data between August 13 and September 14 to evaluate the brand power of the country’s most prominent idol stars.

The KRC compiles related data including media attention, comments on social networking sites, and people’s interests to come up with a brand index of entertainers on a monthly basis.

Hwasa, whose real name is Ahn Hye-jin, took the highest place by scoring 5.05 million points, up 169.65 percent from a month ago.

She topped the podium in July but slid to the No. 3 spot last month before returning to the top place this month.

Girl’s Generation leader Taeyeon assumed the second place with 4.4 million points, up 250.55 percent month-on-month.

Coming in at third was Red Velvet leader Irene, who gained 2.61 million points, up 59.55 percent from August.

Taeyeon’s bandmate YoonA ranked fourth by chalking up 2.22 million points, up 69.56 percent from a month before.

Apink’s Hayoung placed fifth with 2.21 million points, up 407.53 percent from last month.

“With regard to Hwasa, people talked about such issues as sexy, stage, and airport fashion,” KRC CEO Koo Chang-hwan said. “Up to 80.33 percent of comments on her were positive.”

Earlier in July, Hwasa grabbed headlines as she appeared at the Incheon International Airport with a short-sleeved T-shirt and did not wear a bra.

Her no-bra fashion style caused a controversy. Unlike the past, however, many showed their support for Hwasa’s fashion.
