Hyundai Motor America has named Randy Parker as its new CEO, which will be effective as of August 1. The Seoul-based brand is the largest automaker in South Korea.

He is set to take charge of commercial automotive operations in the United States, reporting to Jose Munoz, head of Hyundai Motor North America.

Parker was tapped as vice president of national sales at Hyundai Motor America and was promoted to the senior vice president early last year.

After he got aboard Hyundai, the South Korean brand became one of the mainstream brands in the U.S. by setting an all-time retail sales record last year.

Before joining Hyundai, he worked at Infiniti North America, General Motors, and Nissan.

Born in Germany, Parker studied at Texas Christian University, Harvard University, and Penn State University.

“Randy is the perfect person to continue Hyundai’s recent successes in sales, market share, and growth in the U.S.,” Munoz said. “I have no doubt that he will continue to strengthen the full Hyundai team and our dealer network.”

“Hyundai has an incredible team assembled by Jose and our Korean leadership,” Parker said. “I am humbled and honored by the opportunity to lead this organization and continue the success of the past few years.”

Bob Kim, the general manager for the southern region, has been promoted to vice president of national sales and will report to Parker.

David VandeLinde has also been promoted to vice president, after-sales, and will also report to Parker.

On July 28, Hyundai also appointed Edgar Carranza as CEO of its Mexico unit effective as of next month. Currently, he is the chief operations officer of the Hyundai affiliate.
