Hyundai, Kia electric vehicles recognized as top cars

Electric vehicles of Hyundai Motor and Kia were picked as the best cars of the year, beating new models from such brands as Audi, Ford, and Porsche.

The two South Korean models, which were launched last year, are the Ioniq 5 and the EV 6, which defeated e-tron, Mache-2, and Taycan.

It was the inaugural award by bestcarsoftheyear.com.

Hyundai and Kia expressed their excitement for being recognized as leaders in the potential-laden electric vehicle business.

“We are proud that our first two dedicated battery electric vehicles are jointly honored as the first-ever best cars of the year,” Hyundai’s EV division Kim Heung-soo said.

“It sends a clear message that not only are both Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 world-class electric vehicles but also that we are on the right track with our electrification strategy. The world can expect more great EV models from both brands in the coming year.”

Both the Ioniq 5 and the EV6 are based on the two companies’ dedicated EV platform dubbed E-GMP architecture.

The best cars of the year awards were made to manufacture an unaffiliated and unique view of the best vehicles on offer around the world.

Leaders in the automotive industry, including designers, engineers, motorsport pioneers, journalists, and broadcasters, take part in the judging panel.

Hyundai and Kia said that the two joint champions, the Ioniq 5 and the EV6, would be the attractions at the best cars of the year stand during the British Motor Show this summer.
