Boy band members continue to dominate monthly rank

Three BTS members were named top idols for June, according to the Korea Institute of Corporate Reputation, which compiles related data including media attention and comments on social networking sites on a monthly basis.

Data collected from May 13 to June 14 showed that BTS members Jimin, V, Jungkook took top three places.

Jimin, whose real name is Park Ji-min, scored 14 million points. It marks a 16.64 percent decrease from a month ago but is high enough to keep the 23-year-old atop the table.

V, whose full name is Kim Tae-hyung, got 12.79 million points, down 17.69 percent while Jungkook, whose real name is Jeon Jung-kook, garnered 11.37 million points.

The remaining four BTS members of Jin, RM, Suga, and J-Hope placed between sixth and 12th.

“With regard to Jimin, people talked about such issues as a donation, Busan, and ARMY,” said an official from the Seoul-based institute. “Up to 38.96 percent of comments on him were positive, down from 94.53 percent last month.”

The seven-piece boy band dropped its fourth studio album “Map of the Soul: Persona” on April 12 and had a globe-trotting stadium tour covering three U.S. cities, Sao Paulo, London, and Paris.

The septet, otherwise known as the Bangtan Boys, returned home earlier this month. The boy band plans to have fan meetings in Busan on June 15 and 16 in time with its sixth anniversary.

Earlier this year, Jimin donated some $85,000 to help underprivileged students in Busan, the port city where the superstar grew up.

Previously, he also funded uniforms for graduating students of his alma mater and sent BTS-signed CDs.

Brief for Adorable Representative M.C. for Youth, ARMY refers to loyal fans of BTS.
