Korean outfit deploys a volunteer team to welfare facilities in Konin

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) said on Feb. 7 that it had joined hands with Better World/International Workcamp Organization to hold a volunteer program this month in Konin, Greater Poland Voivodeship.

This is the first time that KHNP is engaging in volunteer activities in Poland.

The Korea’s state-backed organization decided to deploy a team of volunteers to welfare and education facilities in Konin where Pątnów, a potential site of its nuclear power plant, is located.

Such a decision has been made in an effort to increase the acceptability of local residents on nuclear power projects and solidify the friendly relationships between the two countries.

A total number of 35 volunteers will participate in the global volunteer program, including 15 university students selected from the contest, five local university students, and KHNP employees.

They will carry out volunteer activities, including planting trees, environmental improvement, educational service activities, and a Korean-Polish cultural exchange program.

“Taking these volunteer activities as an opportunity, we hope that local residents of Poland become more familiar with nuclear energy and Korean culture, which can possibly further solidify trust between the two countries,” KHNP top planning official Chun Dae-wook said.

“KHNP will continue to launch various global volunteer campaigns to become a trusted leader of the global energy market.”

Poland plans to construct a new nuclear power plant in Pątnów, Konin.

KHNP strives to export new nuclear reactors while signing on a memorandum of understanding with Poland’s Polska Grupa Energetyczna and Zespół Elektrowni Pątnów Adamów Konin last October.
