Korean automaker shows off compact SUV
Kia Motors took the wraps off its new compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) named Seltos at an event held in India’s Delhi on June 20. Kia is Korea's second-largest carmaker.The Seoul-based automaker said that the Kia Seltos brings sophistication, assertiveness, and cutting-edge technology as well as next-generation safety features. Kia CEO Park Han-woo said that the new model is characterized by distinctive design details, by combining forward-looking technical features, class-leading space, and a suite of advanced safety features.“The Seltos is an important car for Kia as it will play a central role in the expansion of our global footprint, and especially in a priority market like India. We’ve adapted our strengths in design, quality, and technology to fulfill the needs of customers in the Indian market.”“Seltos is aimed at youthful, tech-savvy buyers and is packed full of our most cutting-edge technology and safety equipment. The world premiere is a significant milestone for Kia as it shows our commitment to the Indian market – and this is just the beginning. We have big plans for Kia in this wonderful country.”He added that the versatile vehicle provides outstanding value for money as it is armed with a roomy interior seating five people in comfort. The Kia Seltos will hit the Indian market with the highest number of dealerships ever. The automaker also partnered with the country’s eight top financial institutions to offer financial services to customers.The car, which will go on sale in the global market during the second half of this year, will be rolled out at an Indian plant and one in Korea’s Gwangju.A Kia official said that the Seltos boasts of its sophisticated, sporty design, and the space and capabilities of a traditional SUV.“The Seltos offers distinctive exterior design details, such as its long hood, a strong, character line on the front bumper, and sharp lines pressed into the bodywork,” he said.“It also sports a wide ‘tiger nose grille’, making the car instantly recognizable as a Kia, but with a difference. Its robust shoulder line and glasshouse shape, which tapers toward the rear of the car, lend the compact SUV an air of understated sportiness.
