The Korea Network of Women in Finance (KNWF) announced Friday that it would hold an international conference in Seoul next month to delve into such issues as gender diversity and ESG.

The 2022 edition of the annual event, which has a theme of “How gender impacts on ESG,” will take place at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry building in downtown Seoul on Sept. 23.

“More and more investors are taking into consideration such factors as gender diversity and ESG in making their decisions,” KNWF Chairwoman Kim Sang-kyung said.

“Plus, a mounting number of institutional investors, activist shareholders, and customers are also joining the trends. We will discuss the issues in depth.”

Brief for Environmental, Social, and corporate Governance, ESG has been recognized as three central factors in improving the sustainability of a company or business.

ESG programs have become one of the hot-button topics for businesspeople, bureaucrats, and scholars both at home and abroad.

The KNWF said that Franklin Templeton Executive Vice President Ben Meng would deliver a keynote speech. He is chairman of the outfit’s Asia Pacific unit and its executive sponsor of sustainability.

Korea Development Chairman Kang Seok-hoon is also scheduled to speak during the event, which will continue between 13:30 p.m. and 17:20 p.m.

In addition, there will be a panel discussion on the relationship between ESG programs and investment stewardship.

Included in the panelists are former lawmaker Choi Un-yeol, Woori Asset Management CEO Choi Young-kwon, and Won Shin-bo, who heads BlackRock’s Investment Stewardship team Asia ex-Japan.

KB Financial Group’s Managing Director Moon Hye-sook and MSCI Executive Director Kim Tae-woo will also take part in the session.
