Part 2 outperforms Part 1 despite rumors about director

South Korean drama “The Glory” topped the podium in the Netflix global charts on March 13, according to data streaming tracking company Flixpatrol.

The second part of the 16-episode thriller ranked No. 3 on its debut Saturday, before climbing a notch each for the next two days. The first half began streaming late last year.

The Netflix original series was second to none in a total of 38 countries, including Brazil, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Peru, Qatar, South Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam.

The show, which was directed by Ahn Gil-ho, placed third place in the United States and the United Kingdom, respectively.

The Glory depicts a woman’s childhood marked by pain and violence. She sets into motion a carefully planned revenge scheme against the five classmates, who most bullied her.

It stars such Korean actors and actresses as Song Hye-kyo, Lee Do-hyun, Lim Ji-yeon and Yeom Hye-ran. Song plays the victim cum retaliator.

Of note is Director Ahn was recently accused of having assaulted students at a middle school in the Philippines in 1996. Back then, he was a high school student in the country.

At first, he denied the accusation but eventually admitted it.

“Director Ahn sincerely apologizes to those who were hurt by the 1996 accident,” Korean law firm Jipyong, which represents Director Ahn, said in a statement.

“He hopes to say that once given a chance, he will apologize to them in person or through a phone call,” it said.

Hwa&Dam Pictures, a subsidiary of one of Korea's largest studios, Studio Dragon, produced the hit series. The latter’s share price plunged 5.12 on March 13 on the South Korean stock exchange.
