“Money Heist: Korea” fails to hit highest position
South Korean Netflix series “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area” ranked No. 2 on a global popularity chart this week, according to Flixpatrol that traces streaming data.After its first release on June 24, it ranked No. 3 on the global Netflix chart before rising to second place on June 29, chasing only “The Umbrella Academy.”It slid back to third place on June 30 as “Stranger Things” nudged past it, though.The six-episode Korean drama, which was directed by Kim Hong-sun, depicts a crew of desperados who pull off a big heist. It is the Korean remake of the 2017 Spanish Netflix hit content “Money Heist.”Set on the Korean Peninsula, the two Koreas built a joint economic area at the Truce Village to achieve reunification. Thieves overtake the mint, and the police attempt to stop them.Director Kim noted that it was the first part of the first season. The second part, which will also be composed of six episodes, will hit Netflix later this year.It topped the charts in more than 10 countries, including Dominican Republic, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Vietnam, and South Korea.It stars such actors as Yoo Ji-tae, Kim Yun-jin, Jeon Jong-seo, and Park Hae-soo. Park also appeared in “Squid Game,” which has become the most successful Netflix show since its debut last September.Netflix plans to make the sequel of Squid Game, which are about hundreds of contestants who play six rounds of deadly childhood games to win 45.6 billion won ($39 million).“We attempted to stick to the original because it is a remake.
