Digital device is expected to see new innovations
South Korea’s LG Display announced on Nov. 8 that the corporation had developed a high-resolution stretchable display for the first time in the world.The 12-inch free-form display, which can be elongated to 14 inches, can be extended, folded, and twisted without distortion or damage, according to LG.The Seoul-based company noted that the new-type display is also the industry’s first to achieve 20 percent stretchability, a resolution of 100ppi, and full-color RGB.Hence, LG expected that the display’s high flexibility, durability, and reliability would maximize its potential for commercialization.“Based on a highly resilient film-type substrate made of special silicon used in contact lenses, this 12-inch display boasts a rubber band-like flexibility that allows it to be stretched up to 14 inches. The display’s free-form nature offers a cutting-edge solution surpassing the existing foldable and rollable technology,” an LG Display official said.“In addition, the Stretchable display uses a micro-LED light source with a pixel pitch of less than 40μm, securing a high level of durability to withstand significant external impacts as well as a resolution that competes with most existing monitors.”Observers point out that the breakthrough of LG Display would bring about innovations in related industries, including digital devices, fashion, wearables, mobility, and gaming.For example, Samsung Electronics came up with the world’s first foldable handsets in 2019 based on the technical invention of its sister company, Samsung Display.“We will successfully complete this project to enhance the competitiveness of Korean display technology while continuing to lead the industry’s paradigm shift,” LG CTO Yoon Soo-young said.이 기사를 공유합니다
