LG Electronics said on March 6 that it will launch its 2019 premium TV lineup this week. The Seoul-based electronic giant made it clear that it will focus on OLED and NanoCell TVs this year.

The company expected that OLED models will explain a fifth of its high-end TV portfolio.

An OLED refers to organic light-emitting diode. Because it does not need a back-light unit, it is more efficient and thinner compared to previous visual display materials.

It also offers a high picture quality thanks to brilliant colors and fast response rate and wide viewing angles. Global TV makers have put forth efforts to preempt the promising OLED TV market.

“With demand for OLED TVs expected to grow to 3.6 million units this year, 7 million units in 2020 and 10 million in 2021, we expect to extend our leadership in the premium TV segment,” an LG official said.

“End consumers in Korea and the United States will be the first to be able to take home a 2019 LG TV starting March with availability in key markets Asia, Europe and South America to follow soon thereafter.”

The official said that specific pricing and model availability date in each area will be announced later.

When it comes to its NanoCell models, LG stresses that it will brace for artificial intelligence (AI).

“Our NanoCell range for 2019 comprises 14 AI-enabled models, available in sizes ranging from 49 to 86 inches,” the official said.

LG President Brian Kwon expressed his commitment to bringing high-end TVs to meet the needs of customers.

“LG continues to push the boundaries of TV technological innovation, as can clearly be seen from our premium TV lineup for 2019,” he said in a statement.

“LG’s advanced AI technologies to improve picture and sound enrich and expand the viewing experience.”
