Winners of the Merck Award announced
Merck Korea has announced the winners of this year’s science awards, who will be recognized during the International Meeting of Information Displays (IMID) 2021 in Seoul this week.
The company said that Prof. Yoo Seung-hyup of KAIST wins the 2021 Merck Award for his achievements in displays and lighting based on OLEDs and flexible/wearable electronics.
Researcher Jeon Soon-ok of Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology will receive the 2021 Merck Young Scientist Award for her contribution to highly efficient and longer-operating blue light-emitting materials and devices for displays.
The IMID is a conference for leading researchers and students from academia and industry where the participants share their cutting-edge results and knowledge on the information display.
This year’s three-day gathering, which will take place during Aug. 25 and 27 at the COEX in southern Seoul, is the 21st edition of the annual event.
During the IMID 2021, Kai Beckmann, CEO of Merck’s Electronics, plans to deliver a keynote speech under the theme “Shifting the Display Paradigm in Electronics.”
Kim WooKyu, Managing Director of Merck Korea, will be sharing insights on “Seamless Collaboration for Advancing Digital Living” as a keynote speaker for the 20th Anniversary Special Session.
“As Merck is celebrating its 32nd year in Korea, the electronics industry, which is led by displays and semiconductors, is advancing rapidly around the globe due to the growing demands for digital devices and technologies,” Kim said.
“Going forward, Merck will continue to engage in internal innovations and collaborations with the scientific community to deliver scientific progress in business and beyond, including in new fields such as healthcare and life science. These are the insights we hope to share at the Online Panel Discussion for Merck Science Connect at IMID 2021.”
Kim also expressed appreciation and recognition of the contributions of the IMID, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, and that of the Korea Information Display Society (KIDS).
At the exhibition to be held during the conference period, Merck will showcase OLED, liquid crystal, patterning, quantum, coating, and packaging materials and technologies.
Due to the lingering threat of the virus pandemic, Merck will hold an online booth tour from 02:00 p.m. to 03:00 p.m. on Aug. 27 on its YouTube channel.
During the one-hour online booth tour, online visitors can hear all of Merck’s material technologies from Merck’s experts virtually.
