Carter ranks at No. 3 on its first premiere

South Korean Netflix original movie “Carter” got off to a solid start as the action film ranked No. 3 on the streaming giant’s chart on its first premiere on Aug. 6.

Flixpatrol, which tracks streaming data, showed that the show topped the list in a total of 11 countries across the world.

Included in the nations are the Bahamas, Dominican Republic, Hong Kong, Jamaica, Japan, Kenya, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.

In the United States and the United Kingdom, Carter ranked at No. 6, respectively.

The film, directed by Jung Byung-gil, depicts a man who wakes up missing his memories. Headed by a mysterious voice from a device in his ear, the man sets off on a hostage rescue mission rife with danger.

It involves a deadly epidemic originating from the demilitarized zone (DMZ), the heavily fortified area between the two Koreas, which are still technically at war.

Reminiscent of the novel coronavirus, the movie brings about South Korean spy agency, the North Korean military, and the Central Intelligence Agency of the United States.

It is an action-heavy film from the very beginning to the last scene. Joo Won, who played a human weapon Carter, had to train for longer than 100 days for the movie filled with raw actions.

“I strived to demonstrate actions as rough ink-and-wash paintings,” Director Jeong said in a press conference in Seoul just ahead of Carter’s debut.

In major roles, the film stars mostly South Korean actors, including Lee Jung-jae, Jeong So-ri, and Kim Bo-min. Many Westerners took assistant roles.
