Bangtan Boys picked as best K-pop brand

Seven-member boy band BTS was named the top K-pop brand for May, according to the Korea Institute of Corporate Reputation that compiles related data including media attention and comments on social networking sites on a monthly basis.

Data collected from April 24 to May 25 showed BTS chalked up 24.4 million points, down 8.52 percent from a month ago, to remain atop the list.

Came in at second was Girl group BlackPink, which recorded 8 million points, down 43.94 percent from a month before.

Girl group TWICE took the third place with 7.7 million points followed by Iz One and NU’EST, which racked up 6 million points and 5.3 million points, respectively.

“With regard to BTS, people talked about such issues as YouTube, Twitter, and Jimin. Up to 90.56 percent of comments on the idol group were positive,” said an official from the Seoul-based institute.

BTS released its fourth studio album “Map of the Soul: Persona” last month to shatter several records on YouTube, the world’s leading video-sharing site.

The septet has something to do with Twitter as it was the most re-tweeted celebrities in the world for two straight years in 2017 and 2018.

Earlier this month, the number of followers for the joint Twitter account of BTS members topped 20 million.

Jimin is a member of BTS. He was picked as the best idol among K-pop stars this month by the Korea Institute of Corporate Reputation.

BTS, otherwise known as the Bangtan Boys, is now on a globe-trotting concert tour. After Sao Paulo concerts, it will head toward Europe to perform in London and Paris before visiting Japan.
