Why K-pop band stands in the same order

Hard-core fans of K-pop superstar BTS would easily recognize that the seven boys stand in the same order since their debut in 2013 by BigHit Entertainment.

From left to right, the order is V, Suga, Jin, Jungkook, RM, Jimin, and J-Hope. RM and Jimin sometimes switch positions, though.

It could not be a coincidence because they have almost always stood in the fixed order over the past six years. Of course, the order changes on the stage as they perform.

They idol group, otherwise known as the Bangtan Boys, has yet to explain why they take the formation but observers point out that is a norm for K-pop groups.

The reason: it helps fans identify members of the group.

“BTS members are now super-famous so they don’t have to stick to the same order to help fans recognize them. But they don’t have any reason to change the order, either,” said a producer in a Seoul agency.

Of note is Jungkook stands at the center of the septet. The position is usually taken by the leader of the most famous member. For some reason, Jungkook took the place from the beginning.

And there is another order related to the seven-member crew.

BTS fans chant all the member’s names like “Kim Nam-joon, Kim Seok-jin, Min Yoon-gi, Jung Ho-seok, Park Ji-min, Kim Tae-hyung, Jeon Jung-kook, BTS!”

They are RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook, and there is a clear reason for the order.

The well-known fan-chant starts with BTS leader RM and then goes by decreasing age order. Born in 1992, Jin is the oldest member, while Jungkook is the youngest member at the age of 21 years old.

After releasing its fourth studio album “Map of the Soul: Persona” this April, BTS has been on the globe-trotting concert tour. Currently, the band is in Japan.
