Netflix opens up a new continent: “Queen Sono” has been the streaming provider its first in-house production in Africa in order. In the series drama, it is a agent who has to fight not only against crime in South Africa, but also with their own crises. In the coming year, the series is set to launch in 190 countries.
The South African actress Pearl Thusi (“Quantico”) is the main role. “I can’t wait that every woman encounters this continent, on the planet, Queen Sono,” said the 30-year-old Thusi in an emotional Video on Twitter. At the same time, she thanked Netflix: “This will change the industry for any artist on this continent.”

“Queen Sono” make Netflix a strong woman figure from the Format of a Claire Underwood from “House of Cards” and Jessica Jones, quoted the South African news site IOL Entertainment, the two Netflix executives, Eric Barmack and Kelly Luegenbiehl. The series will contain many dramatic elements, a bit of Humor, and will be worn by the characters.
Barmack told also, that it should not remain in this South African series: “In the course of time, we will deepen our roots in Africa and South Africa. This will even happen pretty quickly. We plan to invest even more in local content.” Netflix wants to be a platform for regional artists, their stories told to an international audience.
The creators behind “Queen Sono” is the South African Director and Stand-up Comedian Kagiso Lediga. He and Thusi worked together already in the Netflix movie, “Catching Feelings”, a black-and-humorous-romantic Comedy about a young Couple.
