Korean automaker discloses name of new model
Kia Motors announced May 5 that its new compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) due to be launched this summer will be called “Seltos.” Kia is a sister company of Hyundai Motor.
The Seoul-based outfit said that the Kia Seltos will bring sophistication and assertiveness to the compact SUV segment across the world.
The automaker said that the name was inspired by Greek mythology and the legend of “Celtos,” the son of Hercules.
“Representing the brave and assertive spirit of Celtos, the ‘S’ in the vehicle’s adapted name implies speed and sportiness,” a Kia official said.
“The Seltos has been created for the millennial generation, standing apart from its rivals with a combination of sophisticated, sporty design and the space and capabilities of a traditional SUV – all in a compact package.”
The millennial generation, otherwise known as Generation Y, refer s to the demographic cohort of those who were born between the early 1980s and the mid-1990s. Hence, they are in their 20s or 30s.
The official added that the Seltos offers sophisticated exterior design details including its long hood, a strong, character line on the front bumper, and shart lines pressed into the bodywork.
“Aimed at youthful, tech-savvy buyers, the cabin is characterized by broad, sweeping shapes and highly technical details,” he said.
“Equipped with a range of technologies to maximize convenience, connectivity, and ease of use, the bold design of the cabin incorporates a high-tech 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and Sound Mood Lighting.”
Korea’s second-largest automaker plans to reveal the Seltos later this month before marketing the SUV in Korea and other regions during the second half of this year.
With the Seltos, Kia strives to extend its SUV range to meet the needs of motorists in every market.
“The Seltos will bring many of our strengths in design, quality, and technology to the compact SUV segment for the first time,” the official said.
