Two corporations expected to expand collaboration

South Korea’s energy solution company Doosan Enerbility announced on Feb. 7 that it had joined hands with Germany-based giant Siemens Gamesa to cooperate in the wind power projects.

Under the strategic partnership, Doosan said that the two corporations would seek various offshore wind power orders in the South Korean market.

The framework agreement covers three areas for knowledge exchange on technology, according to Doosan.

First of all, Doosan will assemble Siemens Gamesa’s offshore wind turbine nacelles in its facility before undertaking turbine assembly. Finally, the Seoul-headquartered company is supposed to perform offshore service on selected orders.

“Through this partnership, Doosan looks forward to boosting its competitiveness across the overall offshore wind power sector through measures, such as the upgrading of existing products and diversification of models,” Doosan Enerbility CEO Park Hong-ook said in a statement.

Siemens Gamesa CEO Mark Becker noted that the company would offer its unique offshore skills.

“We will also greatly benefit from Doosan’s deep understanding of the Korean market to accelerate the country’s energy transition. In doing so, the partnership intends to promote local job growth and inward investment while delivering clean, green energy,” he said in a statement.

Observers point out that the two companies may expand their alliance outside of the country.

“Doosan and Siemens Gamesa decided to collaborate for the burgeoning Korean wind power market,” Business tracker Leaders Index CEO Park Ju-gun said.

“Chances are that they may be able to expand the cooperation in other countries, which would affect the global wind power industry.”

Doosan Enerbility, formerly Doosan Heavy Industries, launched its wind power business in 2005. Siemens Gamesa is the global business bellwether in the field.
