SPC Group strives to become responsible corporate citizen

South Korea’s leading food company SPC Group said on Dec. 23 that its bakery brand Paris Baguette had carried out a corporate social responsibility (CSR) program ahead of the Christmas holiday.

Paris Baguette has joined hands with the country’s food delivery company Baedal Minjok to give cakes and presents to underprivileged children.

On Dec. 21, more than 20 delivery workers in Santa Claus costume left the Myeong-dong branch of Paris Baguette located in central Seoul.

The workers on motorcycles headed toward child welfare centers in the country’s capital city to offer Christmas gifts to over 100 children there.

The children’s centers were picked by the ChildFund Korea.

SPC Group said that the CSR project was proposed by young employees, dubbed the Generation MZ, of the conglomerate.

The Generation MZ is South Korea’s unique term referring to millennials and Generation Z, who were born between 1980 and 1995.

“We strived to give warm gifts to children in time with Christmas,” an SPC Group official said. “We hope that the event would offer precious memories to children.”

As one of the oldest food companies in Korea, SPC manufactures bread and confectionery products. The precursor of the group was first founded in 1945, and SPC Group was launched in 2004.

The group is headed by Chairman Hur Young-in.
