Streaming giant green lights sequel to megahit thriller
Netflix announced on June 12 that the global video streaming platform had approved the second season of "Squid Game," the highly popular South Korean show.Director Hwang Dong-hyuk said in a letter that the sequel to the thriller would come to town.“It took 12 years to bring the first season of Squid Game to life last year. But it took 12 days for Squid Game to become the most popular Netflix series ever,” he said.“And now, Gi-hun returns. The frontman returns. Season 2 is coming. Cheol-su.”Squid Game is an eight-episode dystopian series, which depicts hundreds of cash-strapped contestants who play six rounds of deadly childhood games.The ultimate winner is able to win around $40 million, but losers have to risk their lives in the survival games.The series attracted 1.65 billion hours of viewing in the first four weeks after its release last September to become the most popular Netflix series.Played by actor Lee Jung-jae, Gi-hun is the main protagonist of Squid Game. As Hwang hints, he is expected to play the leading role in the second season.Ddakji is a traditional Korean game played by multiple people with ddakji, which is made by folding two square pieces of paper together into a square.Young-hee was the infamous doll in the first season of Squid Game, and Cheol-su is typically called a boyfriend of Young-hee in Korea. Hence, Cheol-su might be another animatronic doll of the second season.Hwang has noted that he would direct the sequel to Squid Game, but this marks the first time for him to tease new characters with an official letter.But neither Hwang nor Netflix disclosed the specific release date of Squid Game season two.키워드
