Girl's Generation member soars to top place

Taeyeon, who debuted as a member of Girls’ Generation in 2007, was the top girl idol for this month, according to a brand reputation analysis by the Korea Reputation Center (KRC).

The Seoul-based entity collected 94 million pieces of data between September 18 and October 19 to evaluate the brand power of the country’s most prominent idol stars.

The KRC compiles related data, including media attention, comments on social networking sites, and people’s interests to come up with a brand index of entertainers on a monthly basis.

Taeyeon, whose real name is Kim Tae-yeon, took the highest place by scoring 3.7 million points, down 15.79 percent from a month ago.

Although her score went down, Taeyeon managed to dethrone reigning champion Hwasa of Mamamoo, who saw her index dip 73.21 percent to 3.2 million points.

Taeyeon barely made it to the top 20 list in July but soared to the runner-up place last month before topping the podium this month.

Coming in at third was Hyeri of Girl’s Day, who gained 3.2 million points, up 656.83 percent month-on-month.

Jang Won-young of Izone ranked fourth with 2.3 million points followed by TWICE Nayeon with 1.3 million points.

“With regard to Taeyeon, people talked about such issues as a comeback, and purpose,” KRC CEO Koo Chang-hwan said. “Up to 70.31 percent of comments on her were positive.”

Taeyeon is scheduled to drop her album “Purpose” late this month.

Beginning in 2015, Taeyeon began a solo career.
