K-pop boy band fascinates fans with new album
Once again, K-pop fans are going crazy over megastars BTS, which dropped their much-anticipated comeback album, “Map of the Soul: Persona,” on April 12.The seven-member boy band, also known as the Bangtan Boys, instantly dominated Twitter, presales of the mini album shot up, and popular video and music sites crashed due to high traffic.Just after the release of BTS’s fourth studio album, Youtube users reported that they were having trouble accessing the video-sharing site for minutes.And in around 15 hours, its music video for the title song, “Boy With Luv,” featuring U.S. singer Halsey, was viewed more than 50 million times.In the case of Melon, Korea’s No. 1 music web site, the crash lasted for longer than an hour and its operator struggled to deal with connection issues on its mobile app.BTS fans known as ARMY retweeted the exceptionally popular septet across the world _ after the release of the album, all of the top five Twitter trends in the U.S. were related to BTS, according to Trends 24.In fact, BTS was the most re-tweeted celebrities in the world in 2017 and 2018.BTS management company, BigHit Entertainment, said that pre-orders for the seven-track album surpassed 3 million this week, breaking its previous record of 1.75 million pre-orders for “Love Yourself: Answer” album.As “Love Yourself: Answer” eventually sold 2.7 million units and hit the top of the Billboard 200 last year, the new BTS album is widely expected to achieve better performance.The K-pop colossal is set to hold their comeback stage on April 13 via “Saturday Night Live.” U.S. actress Emma Stone will host the late-night sketch show.In May, BTS is scheduled to launch a world tour, which will feature 16 shows across four continents including such famous venues as Wembley Stadium.
