Samsung will team up with Orange
South Korea’s Samsung Electronics announced on Nov. 10 that the firm had joined hands with Orange to take part in the opening of the latter’s Open Ran Integration Center in Paris.Samsung said that the two tech giants would collaborate to disaggregate the hardware and software elements of traditional RAN in the center.The Seoul-based company’s virtualized RAN will be used. The technology has been commercially deployed with top-tier global operators in such countries as the United States.“Open RAN is a major evolution of radio access that requires deeper cooperation within the industry. With our European peers, we want to accelerate the development of Open RAN solutions that meet our needs,” Orange Senior Vice President Arnaud Vamparys said.“After the publication of common specifications, Orange’s Open RAN Integration Center will support the development and tuning of solutions from a broad variety of actors.”Samsung Electronics Executive Vice President Kim Woo-june also welcomed two-way cooperation.“We are pleased to participate in Orange’s innovative laboratory,” said Kim, who is in charge of the company’s Global Sales & Marketing, Networks Business“Through this collaboration, we look forward to taking networks to new heights in the European market, enabling operators to offer more immersive mobile services to their users.”Samsung Electronics is the world’s largest manufacturer of mobile phones, memory chips, and flat-panel displays.Orange is one of the world’s largest telecom operators.
