US President Donald Trump announces the appointment of Patrick Shanahan to the U.S. Secretary of defense. The Trump informed on the short message service Twitter. “I am pleased to announce that the talented Patrick Shanahan work on the 1. January will start,” tweeted Trump. Shanahan will perform the role of first Commissioner. He should hold the office permanently, to the Senate to confirm.
Shanahan is the Deputy of the outgoing Secretary of defense James Mattis. Mattis had announced on Thursday his withdrawal, among other things, because he was with the deduction of 2000 US soldiers out of Syria do not agree with. The change now comes faster than expected. Mattis had to first pull the end of February and stressed that there should be enough time for the Transition.
