Korean conglomerate becomes world’s top 5 brand
No other Korean countries have achieved the exploit _ Samsung has become one of the best five brands in the world, according to a recent announcement of U.S. consultancy Interbrand.
Samsung’s value was estimated at $62.3 billion, beating Coca Cola with $56.9 billion. The former is the biggest manufacturer of smartphones and memory chips in the globe.
It took eight years for Samsung to jump from the 10th place to the fifth slot _ the company first joined the rank of top 10 in 2012.
Samsung has become the second Asian company to join the top-five list after Japanese automaker Toyota, which scored the feat three times in 2007, 2018, and 2016.
For this year, Toyota came in at the seventh position, chased by Mercedes-Benz, McDonald’s, and Disney.
Along with Samsung, four high-tech U.S. brands of Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, and Google rounded out the best five.
In particular, Apple topped the podium for the eighth straight year. Its value amounted to $323 billion, up 38 percent from a year ago.
No. 2 player Amazon was the best performer because its brand value soared 60 percent year-on-year to $200.7 billion. Those of Microsoft and Google were $166 billion and $165.4 billion, respectively.
Intel was at the 12th place, followed by Facebook and IBM.
Of note was that fast-growing newcomers entered the top 100 for the first time, including Instagram at 19th, YouTube at 30th, and Zoom at 100th.
In case of U.S. electric vehicle maker Tesla, it reentered the list by taking the 40th place.
