Boy band member sets Spotify record

Singers from across the world compete to rack up more streams on Spotify, a global music platform launched a decade ago to provide access to more than 40 million tracks.

It is quite a feat to amass over 50 million streams on Spotify, which has some 230 million active users, but that happens for famous artists. A more impressive milestone is to have multiple songs surpassing 50 million streams.

Up until now, only two Korean acts of Psy and BTS member Jimin achieved the exploit as both had two songs on the list, respectively.

And earlier this month, Jimin becomes the first Korean artist ever to have three solo songs with upside of 50 million streams each on the popular streaming platform.

On top of “Intro: Serendipity” and “Lie,” the full-length edition of “Serendipity” recently topped 50 million streams to make Jimin set a new record.

In addition, “Lie” gathered almost 200 million streams on Spotify to join the rank of the five most-streamed Korean solo songs.

BTS is a seven-member team, which was formed in 2013 to eventually become the world’s largest boy band.

The idol group released its fourth studio album “Map of the Soul: Persona” this April and went through a globe-trotting stadium tour, which encompassed three U.S. cities, Sao Paulo, London, and Paris.

Jimin is the lead vocal of the septet, otherwise called the Bangtan Boys. The 23-year-old’s full name is Park Ji-min.

Another K-pop colossus Psy achieved two songs with 50 streams on Spotify with “Gangnam Style” and “Gentlemen” in 2012 and 2013.

Psy, whose real name is Park Jae-sang, is a singer-songwriter and rapper. He is also a record producer.
