South Korea’s full-service law firm Yulchon announced on Sept. 29 that it would send its Asian business chief Lee Myung-jae to Vietnam for brisker global expansion.

The Seoul-based company said that attorney Lee would take charge of the Asian businesses at the Yulchon office in Ho Chi Minh City beginning on Oct. 1.

In particular, Lee is set to oversee Yulchon’s legal consulting services and other businesses in such Asian countries as Vietnam, Singapore, Indonesia, and Myanmar.

Yulchon has vehemently tapped into the Asian markets by establishing branches or offices in Ho Chi Minh City (2007), Hanoi (2010), Beijing (2011), Yangon (2014), Jakarta (2017), and Shanghai (2018).

“Among domestic law firms, Yulchon has the most outstanding core competence and the richest experiences in the Asian businesses,” Yulchon Managing Partner Yoon Hee-woong said.

“With Lee in charge in Vietnam, Yulchon will provide far better legal services to corporations, which waded into other Asian countries or those who want to do so.”

Lee has worked as an equity partner in Yulchon during the past few years. He headed Allianz Life Korea, currently ABL Life, and Lotte Insurance.

The former is a mid-tier life insurer of the country, while the latter is a non-life insurance company.

Watchers note that he successfully led the two companies _ under his stewardship, Lotte Insurance managed to turn a profit, wrapping up years of losses.

The graduate of Yonsei University got his MBA at Syracuse University and studied at Rutgers University School of Law. He is an attorney admitted in New York and New Jersey.

Founded in 2007, Yulchon has grown into one of the top law firms in South Korea. Currently, it employs more than 510 fee earners, including over 60 licensed in jurisdictions outside of Korea.

The company focuses on such areas as corporate & finance, tax, antitrust, real estate & construction, dispute resolution, and intellectual property.
